Overseas Alumni
A few folk have mentioned to me in passing that they would be interested to hear how our faithful overseas servants from previous years are getting on with their lives and cricket following the excrutiating pain of 1, and in some cases, 2 seasons playing on the hallowed turf.
You will be pleased to know that all have coped admirably with the void and some have even made progress, both socially and cricketingly.
On a player by player basis:
Tony Coulson
Home - Perth, Australia
Service - 2003 and 2004 seasons
Nickname - Gurl Hair
Our virgin Aussie in so many senses, Tony is living and working back at his home town in Australia. It is understood that he has even had some luck with the ladies.
From a cricketing point of view Tony broke into the A Grade side at Rockingham-Mandurah shortly after returning home from Goldsborough. He is regularly playing against high standard opposition in A grade (Langer, Voges, Magoffin) and last week scored 183 opening the innings
Matt Armour
Home - Auckland, New Zealand
Service - 2005 Season
Nickname - Flemmo
Infamously advising an umpire to “stick his village cricket”, this shifty Kiwi scored runs and took wickets for us in 2005, helping us to a record Division 1 points haul. He espacially bonded with the other Graham and is in regular contact.
Matt has since retired from competitive cricket, citing his reason as being that he wanted to finish at the top. He is now married and operating an Immigration, sorry Irrigation, business with his brother. Occasionally he is in touch to boast about New Zealand’s test performances - we’ve not spoken in a while.
Dirk Xanthos
Home - Adelaide, Australia
Service - 2006 and 2007 seasons
Nickname - Derek
Dirk provided solid batting at the top of the order for 2 seasons and added to this with handy bombing, reverse bombing and stealth bombing with the old ball.
Dirk has continued travelling since his time with us at Goldsborough. After a brief spell back home, he is now in Canada with girlfriend Amber and, categorically, is not receiving anything from Goldsborough CC by way of payment.
Richard Miles
Home - Tasmania, Australia
Service - 2008 season and 2009 TBC
Nickname - Roger
Milo scored runs and took wickets throughout the 2008 season. His aggresive style scared all the attacks that bowled to him and Henry still hasn’t calmed down after nearly seeing his 1 year record broken.
Since leaving Goldsborough he has returned to butchery in Tasmania and we hope he can join us again next year. Frank recently scored his first A grade century and is looking to help his native Sheffield CC to another A grade league title along with brother Gary “Hawk”. The only source of doubt is whether or not can afford the tights required to return.
