November Update

As in previous years, Goldsborough is running a side in the Headingley Indoor Cricket League. Games are, funnily enough, played indoors at Headingley. These are Tuesday nights at 7 and are 10 overs a side.

The league is becoming more competitive and the odd paddy is seen during games. However, Goldsborough continue to hold their own and up to and including 4 November the record stands at:

p6    w3     l3         points 6

This amounts to mid table mediocrity but the coveted play off spots are still well within reach and this remains the target for the Autumn league campaign.

Highlights to date this season include:

  • A 20 minute argument over the calling of a wide (there are no neutral umpires). Just to clarify here, it was a foot inside the tramline.
  • A 15 minute argument over the interpretation of the rules governing bowler over allocations - the offending competitor “should know though because he’s doing a maths degree” - well, he hasn’t got it yet then has he?!
  • A vastly improved speed of running between the wickets from treacle.
  • The chronicles of Kapil Kev.
  • Female opposition with all the shots.
  • Bouncers to female opposition with all the shots.

Games continue until 9 December 2008 and a new league begins in Spring 2009 for those looking to get their eys in before the new outdoor (rainy) season.
